The metal

Sterling, all the way through

Sterling is 92.5 percent pure silver, alloyed with a small measure of copper so it holds a shape and takes a polish. Every piece here is solid sterling from the surface to the core.

Every piece is nickel free and lead free.

The stones

Cut, never created

Every gemstone is natural — formed underground over a span of time no workshop can shorten, mined as rough, then faceted by a cutter who decides where the light will go.

A citrine may read honey in daylight and amber under a lamp. Expect the stone to have moods.

Natural stones carry inclusions, faint colour zoning, and small differences in tone from one to the next. Those are the marks of something that grew rather than something poured, and they are why a piece in your hand will never look quite like a photograph of it.

What you will never find here is cubic zirconia, glass, or a laboratory stone described as earth-mined. Each piece is built around the stone that arrived, which is why stone sizes vary slightly from piece to piece.

The signature

Every piece is signed

Before a piece leaves the bench it is stamped 925 and signed with the maker's mark, placed where the stamp sits out of sight when worn — inside a shank, behind a bail, along the inside of a clasp.

It tells a jeweler what the metal is before they test it, it identifies the piece years from now, and it is the last step in the making rather than a label added afterward.

In the workshop

How a piece comes together

Stones are chosen first. The metal is then built to suit the stone, rather than the other way around.

Selection

The stone leads

Rough and cut stones are selected for colour and clarity before any metalwork begins.

Alloy

Clean metal

Sterling and solder are both free of nickel, lead, and cadmium, so nothing irritating sits against skin.

Setting

Seated by hand

Bezels are burnished and prongs seated individually, which is why stone sizes differ slightly between pieces.

Signature

Stamped and signed

The 925 stamp and maker's mark go on last, tucked where they will not show against the skin.

Live on Whatnot

New stones go live before they go online

Most new work sells during the show — stones are shown under loupe, prices are called in the room, and pieces ship the next business day. The collection here is what survives the show.
